Longville Turtle Races!!

Today we took the whole heard into Longville for the Turtle Races!  Longville, MN is the turtle racing capitol of the world!

The kiddos got to do hula hoop contests, dance contests, eat Frosty’s ice cream, and play on the infamous Longville school playground.

Here’s some snapshots of their time in Longville!

We had such a great time in town with this crew!

This is how we tired out the kids all day…

Luther Dell has a new game that we tried out today… has anyone heard of Quidditch? There is a modified Quidditch game, that is played around the world, and it’s designed for non-wizards (muggles if you will…) who can’t fly and don’t use magic, and it has been brought to Luther Dell!

The rules are semi- confusing, but the campers seemed to understand…  You basically try to throw a volleyball into hoops, before someone gets you out with a gator ball.. while running around on your “brooms” aka fun noodles 🙂

Roundy Round!

One activity that Luther Dell campers loooove, is the Roundy Round!

Campers love to buy canteen foods… like pop, candy, ice cream, and then eat them on or just before going on the roundy round.  I know, it is very smart of them.  Many walk away with tummy aches, but that is a small price to pay for the fun of being spun suuuuuper fast, and then try to run in a straight line.

Our theme this year is “Into the Midst” and we are focusing mainly on community in our life, faith, and as brothers and sisters in Christ.

Can’t wait to see all your lovely faces up here sometime this summer/fall!

Gaga!

No, we’re not talking about Lady Gaga.  There is a new game at camp, and it is called Gaga.  It is an Israeli game where you play in an octagonal “pit” where you can only hit the ball if it’s below your waist… and if you get hit by the ball, you’re out, and you must leave the “pit”.  That’s about it. Kids ’bout to be goin’ crazy…

We had some non-gaga-ers who played the traditional carpet ball, street square during canteen last night…

Pastor Carl’s Outdoor Chapel Dedication

This past weekend, Luther Dell held a special service dedicated to those who volunteered to make this screened in outdoor chapel a reality.

Mike Johnson welcoming everyone to the service.
Pastor Carl Buettemeir shared a message during the service, in addition to all his help and donations he has given to Luther Dell.

This outdoor chapel has been used one to two times daily this summer, it’s a great addition to the camp!

Thank you to those who came up to join us this past weekend, we welcome you to come back anytime!

Last Day at CAMP!

How to Play Mighty Mighty Scoop Noodle Challenge

Luther Dell is famous for the awesome-ness of the game
Mighty Mighty Scoop Noodle Challenge.

The Object of the Game: to get 2 Frisbees, 2 Fun-Noodles, and 2 Soccer Balls onto your team’s side.

Sounds easy enough, but it’s not.  If you run onto the opposing team’s side to retrieve the noodle, frisbee, or soccer ball, the opposing team mates can tag you.  When you get tagged, you have to sit down where you are, and wait for a team mate to save you.

To save someone you must run over to the opposite team’s side and tag a friend before you get tagged.  You get free backs to your side ONLY if you hold hands and skip all the way back.

This game is loads of fun, so we play it twice a week!

Pre-Game pump up!

The Fun-Noodle is most definitely the toughest item to retrieve!

We finally got some sun around dinner time today! First time since the weekend!

Rain Rain Go Away…

It’s been a very rainy past 2 days at Luther Dell, I’m thinking the rain should stop now.  No thunderstorms or anything extreme, just constant rain all day today and most of yesterday. On a brighter note, this means that camp will be nice and green for the Outdoor Chapel Dedication this weekend!

Today we had our Luther Dell Olympics, with fun games and even an Olympic sized torch (also known as the campfire lighter).  Our activities included; Dizzy Bat Obstacle Course, Scream Run, Random Object Shot Put, Luther Dell derby, the Stick Game, and last but not least Dress the Counselor!

The unofficial-official-picture-taker here at LD was stationed at Dress the Counselor, so here are pictures of all the campers with their counselor that they dressed!

Poop Deck! (it’s a game, not a task we make campers complete)

It was a cloudy day here in Remer, MN, but the sun came out after dinner just in time to play some Mighty Mighty Scoop Noodle Challenge!

Today’s 11:30am game was Poop Deck, where you have to follow a sequence of directions to not be out of the game!

When we say “bomb”, you do this…

Lower Deck!

 Salute Your Captain

 Missile!

Don’t worry! She was injured before coming to Luther Dell…

The numbers game! Object of the game; when a number is called out (ex. 4), you must get in a group with a total of 4 people and sit down. If you’re not in a group with said number, you’re out!

This may or may not be Dave Peet’s favorite game.
