Friday: Closing Ceremony for the Olympics

It’s our last day with campers here at Luther Dell and it’s almost time to say goodbye to them.  We’ve had a great week and can’t believe it’s over!

Today we had the Closing Ceremony for the Olympics!  Here are the pictures of each nation!

That’s for a great week!  And thanks everybody for a great summer!  We hope to see you all again next year!

Thursday Noodle Hockey!

It’s the last full day of camp here at Luther Dell and it’s been a great day!

The Roots campers helped lead Chapel this morning!  They lead the songs and actions, had parts in the skit, lead prayers, and gave the message.  They did a great job!

They even zippered everyone in and got people excited for chapel!

Our final event of the Olympics was Noodle Hockey.  In Noodle Hockey, the object of the game is to get the gator ball into the opposing teams net, using your noodles to pass it up the field and score.  If the ball hits your feet, you must raise your noodle above your head and count to five before resuming play.  If a camper scored a goal, 16 points were awarded to their nation.  If a staff member scored a goal, 8 points were awarded to their nation.  It was an intense last day and any of the nations could have taken home the gold medal!

Wednesday’s Post: Minute to Win It!

We had trouble with our internet last night and were unable to post this.  So here is the post from yesterday!
We have lots of pictures and videos to share with you from today!
This afternoon we played some fun games in Upper Sunwall!  We started with a game called “Shuffle Your Buns.”  In this game there is one open chair and one person in the middle.  The person in the middle is trying to sit down in the open chair, but everyone in the circle is trying to prevent that.  So everyone shuffles in one direction until someone taps the seat twice and says “shuffle your buns!”  This switches the direction and everyone has to shuffle back the other way.
Video clip of Shuffle Your Buns

Next, we played a game called Train Wreck.  There is no extra chair in this one.  The person in the middle says their name and something about themselves, such as “I like ice cream!”.  Anyone in the circle who also likes ice cream has to get up and find a new seat.  The last person standing is the new person to introduce themselves and say something about themselves.
Video clip of Train Wreck

Finally, we combined Shuffle Your Buns and Train Wreck!  So it started out like Train Wreck, where someone introduces themselves and says something about themselves.  Everyone who also has that in common get up and try to find a new seat.  Meanwhile the people who did not get up start shuffling.  As you will see in the video, it is pretty chaotic and lots of fun!

Video clip of the combination

Today for the Olympics we played Minute to Win It games!  Each nation sent up a representative for each challenge and the winner earned 5 points for their nation.  It was pretty intense and everyone was very excited!

Along with Minute to Win It games, we also played Choose Thine Option as a part of the Olympics today!  Everyone chooses from three options: the buoy, karate, or dancing.  The leader turns around and everyone chooses an option and acts it out.  The leader then turns around and does an action.  Anyone who matches the leader is out.  The last person standing won 10 points for their nation!  We played three exciting rounds of Choose Thine Option!

Here’s the Official Olympic scoreboard at the end of the day.  We go into our last day of Olympics tomorrow with Noodle Hockey!

Last night we also played Skittles, the night game.

Team Building and Zuba!

It’s been a busy Tuesday here at Luther Dell!

This morning the weather was perfect to be outside doing team building activities.
The Roots campers did the Golf Ball Challenge.  They had to keep the ball rolling in their tubes from the top of the stairs in lodge all the way to the can, which started out in the back of the maintenance truck.  It was a tough one!

The Human Knot!  These girls had to untangle themselves from this knot.  They had already successfully conquered the human knot but decided they wanted to do it again.  Immediately after this picture was taken, they ended up in a pile, on the ground, laughing!
 Lava Crossing
These guys had to get themselves across the hot lava basketball court standing only on these boards.

Battle Bots
In this activity the campers are paired up.  There is one controller and one battle bot.  The battle bot is blindfolded and the controller has to direct the battle bot where to go to pick up gator balls and throw them at other battle bots.

This afternoon during free time we got a big game of kickball going!

Tie-Dye Tuesday!
We played Rat-a-tat-tat this afternoon!

Our Olympic event today was a game called Zuba.  This game is played with two teams and the object of the game is to get a volleyball into the opposing team’s net.  We played with 5 volleyballs today!  You can either kick or throw the ball, but you can’t run while carrying a ball.  The game also starts with a fun song and dance!

Mighty Mighty Scoop Noodle Challenge

Last night we played Mighty Mighty Scoop Noodle Challenge!  Everyone is divided into two teams.  Each team has three objects on their back line: a volleyball, a frisbee, and a noodle.  The object of the game is to get all 6 objects onto your team’s side.  If you get tagged while on the other team’s side you have to sit down and wait for one of your teammates to come and save you.

It’s another beautiful day here at Luther Dell and we are looking forward to another great day!

Monday: Olympic Opening Ceremony and Speed Pictionary

It was a beautiful day for the swim test!

This afternoon we played Ultimate Duck, Duck, Gray Duck.  It is similar to regular Duck, Duck, Gray Duck but instead of being individually in a circle, you are in lines.  When you line gets tagged, you all have to get up and race to get back to that line.  The last person sitting is it.

We had the Opening Ceremony of the Luther Dell Olympics today!  The campers and staff were divided into 4 nations who will be competing in different events throughout the week.

Today each nation decided on their name and some even came up with a cheer!

Becca getting her nation pumped up for the Olympics!

After the Opening Ceremony, we had our first Olympic event: Speed Pictionary.  The nations had to work their way through a list of camp related words, having one team member draw a word and the rest of the team having to guess.  The team that got through the most words at the end, won the most points for their nation.

Last night we got to have campfire out at the campfire ring, which actually doesn’t happen all that often!  Usually the bugs are so bad in the evening that we worship in the screened-in chapel, but it was a cool night and the bugs weren’t too bad.   It was great to be worshiping together around the campfire!

The campers have already been busy with many games of Gaga today!

Tonight we played 3 Team Medic!  It’s similar to dodgeball but with three teams.  Each team picks one person to be the medic.  If you get hit with a ball or someone catches a ball you threw, you have to sit down.  The only way to get back up is if your team’s medic tags you.
